The Right Time and Way to Drink Green Tea

Timing matters
How much benefit you get from green tea depends heavily on when you drink it. The wrong timing can even cause acidity instead of comfort.
The 3 best times
- 30–45 minutes after breakfast — caffeine plus L-theanine gives clear, calm focus for the whole morning.
- An hour after lunch — cuts through the post-meal slump and aids digestion.
- 4–5 PM — the last good slot; later cups can disturb sleep.
The 3 mistakes to avoid
- ❌ Not on an empty stomach — it can trigger acidity; eat something light first.
- ❌ Not with meals — tannins interfere with iron absorption; leave a 30–45 minute gap.
- ❌ Not within 2–3 hours of bedtime.
Brewing it right
Water just off the boil (rest 1–2 minutes, ~80°C), one teaspoon per cup, steep 2–3 minutes only. Pouring bubbling-hot water straight on the leaves is why most people find green tea bitter.
For weight management
Two to three unsweetened cups a day; one cup 30 minutes before exercise may help fat burn. Green tea supports — it doesn't replace — diet and exercise.
